ABOUT > Divisions > ABSEED
Agrometeorology deals with a wide-spectrum of subjects comprising all the weather-sensitive components of the chain from agricultural production to consumption. Among these are: growth stage factors and requirements, microclimate modification, weather risk assessments, use of weather forecasts, and advice to farmers. On top of which are the acquisition of required inputs, data and methods of analysis. From the traditional conduct of field experimentations to controlled environment studies, agrometeorology has reached a modern era with the use of a package of new tools: data acquisition techniques (unmanned ground observation, aircraft and satellite) for weather monitoring, data transmission techniques (internet, wireless technology), control systems for microclimate optimization, and data analysis and forecasting (GIS, models and other software)
Agrometeorology, Bio-Structures and Environment Engineering Division (ABSEED) offers programs and conducts studies that will equip the students and community to:
- harness crop yield potential from favourable weather as well as weather extremes
- improve crop and animal production by developing controlled environment technologies
- minimize environmental impact of agricultural wastes
Mission
To develop students who, and appropriate technologies that, can translate sky-high weather problems into manageable ground-level solutions which farmers and entrepreneurs can implement in a changing global climate.
Vision
A center of excellence in agrometeorology, structures and environment engineering instruction, research and extension.
